Hardrive and .pst problem?

Outlook PST Repair

I have Windows XP Pro. My computer froze on me and dies yesterday. Now when I try to boot I get the blue screen. I have tried to boot every way possible but always get blue screen. In safe mode it hangs on mup.sys and blue screens. I took the drive and plugged it into my other system and can see all the files. I have moved all my data off the corrupt drive except one last thing I want. My OUtlook 2007 .pst file. I can’t find it anywhere on the disk. It was open when the crashed occurred so it is probably corrupted. Does any know how I can located it so I can run a utility to repair it? Would it have anohter extension besides .pst?? Any other suggestions for fixing blue screen would be nice too :)
I have tried every boot possible…safe modes, cd….everything.

Chosen Answer:

With the drive loaded into a second system do the following

Open “My Computer”,
Click “Tools” (at the top)
Click “Folder Options”
Click “View” (at the top)
Click “Show Hidden Files and folders”
Click “OK”

browse to the following location Replacing “X” for the drive letter that has been assigned to your drive in the second system.

X:\Documents and Settings\yourusername\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook

You should find your PST file in here, copy it to a location of your choice.

You can run a repair of the PST file using the SCANPST.EXE utility

It can be found (on a system with MS Office installed on it) in the following location:

C:\Program Files\Common Files\System\Mapi33\

Why don’t you recover your PC system. Start it up then when a black screen pops up hit the key it says to. It may take about 20 minutes. Hope this helps.

When you have the drive installed on the second machine…do a search (from the START menu). Search for .PST. That will be your local Outlook Information Store.

Search Microsoft’s website for a tool that can repair file or at least check it for corruption. I know there are utlities to do it. I haven’t had to run one in a while.
